Eye Colors are determined by
genes and DNA

Research shows:

  • It has been determined by scientists that almost any variation of parent-child genes can create a specific color combination. (See the eye colors chart provided).  Neither the mother nor the father can take complete responsibility for the eye color.
  • The iris gets its color from these three main elements the epithelium, iris stroma, and the eumelanin.
  • The amount of melanin, and the density of the cells within the iris stroma affects the amount of light absorption in the underlying layers of the epithelium.  Thus creating the human eye-color variations.

Color Spectrum

The spectrum of colors denoted in the human eye are:

  • Amber
  • Blue
  • Brown
  • Gray

DEFINITIONS

This Chart page holds definitions for the following words – which have been provided for your convenience:

  • Epithelium – A primary body tissue which sits on top of connective tissue. It has two layers which is separated by membrane. It’s function is secretion, protection, detection of sensation, and absorption.
  • Eumelanin – Found in the following hair colors, brown, black, yellow, and grey. It is also found in skin. We find Black eumelanin primarily in non-Europeans but including aged Europeans. Brown eumelanin is found in most young Europeans. Grey hair is caused by having a small amount of black eumelanin and no other pigments. Yellow (blond) hair is caused by having a small amount of brown eumelanin and no other pigments.
  • Iris – The Iris represents the eye color. The center of the Iris known as the pupil contracts or expands allowing light to enter. The Iris controls the diameter of eye in direct unison with pupil and the amount of light allowed in. The size of pupil determines the amount of light.
  • Iris Stroma – Consists of fibers, cells, vessels, and nerves.
  • Melanin – stops the rapid development of a tan caused by the sun. It absorbs harmful UV radiation which prevents indirect DNA damage.
  • Pigment – Melanin is a pigment, and responsible for color.

What are the

Colors on the Color Wheel?

  • Goethe Color Model This is another color model that many people do not observe.  This is a methodical system of color keeping.  It is the the first time in history that anyone decided to keep a systematic, orderly, and organized method to standardize the colors.  Goeth created this system in 1810.  He created this “new” color wheel because he noticed that many colors opposed one another.
  • Harmonic Triangle. This color wheel represents the harmony of music, and its cords.  The Harmonic wheel helps musicians easily capture the concept of musical notes.  The harmonic wheel holds the D note directly in the middle.  The primary colors of this wheel are called the inverse dominant.  The secondary colors are called the dominant.  The tertiary colors are called the tonic.
Harmonic Colors

Harmonic Visions

  • RGB Color Model or triangle of the Painters Colors. The primary colors are red, green, and blue.  We learn of these colors in elementary school.
  • RYB Color Model or triangle of the Printers Colors. The primary colors are red, yellow, and blue or the comparable technical colors of magenta, yellow, and cyan.  These colors are used in all things technical such as computers, and televisions.

The Primary Colors

The primary colors are the RYB Colors, which creates the RGB Colors as secondary colors, finally forming the tertiary dark neutral colors.
