Australian Aboriginal Flag

Australian Flag Aboriginal
Australian Flag Aboriginal, 1971The aboriginal people of the continent are calculated to have inhabited the region for at least 125,000 years. They are said to be the original inhabitants of the continent. Aboriginal people of Australia have been researched and date back to more than 70,000 B.C. (before christ). After settlement of the British, the life of the aboriginal people changed drastically. The indigenous people were forced into submission by the European rule. Their children were taken away from them, and put into shelters where they were taught how to lose their national heritage. An apology was given by the Australian government in 2008, for the grief, and suffering, and loss that was inflicted upon them.

Today, the largest group of indigenous people live near Pitjantjatjara area near the Ayers Rock or Uluru, South Australia. Approximately 3% of the Australian population are Aboriginal.

Aboriginal people have their own religion. The religion of the Aboriginals is based on their continuous ability to think, create and live in the dream state. They gather their physical, mental, strength and knowledge from that realm. Additionally, they are further strengthened within this dream state through dances, and rituals which helps to bond them to this spiritual world.
